Weekly roundup

Welcome to this week’s GenXGrownUp Insider! We’ve got a little bit of everything this time around: a look at retro game preservation, a pinball-powered livestream, an upcoming Atari Lynx spotlight, a legendary Galaga arcade trick, and a couple of convention stops where you’ll be able to catch up with us in person. Dive in and see what’s new, what’s next, and what you may have missed.

In Case You Missed It

A Big Win for Retro Game Preservation

Retro gaming history is only valuable if people can still experience it, and this video spotlights a free service that could make a real difference. We take a closer look at how it helps classic games stay discoverable and accessible, why that matters for preservation, and what it could mean for retro fans going forward.

Flippers, Tables & Retro Arcade Vibes

We went live for a pinball-packed stream featuring Pinball FX, Pinball FX Midnight, and maybe even a little Zaccaria Pinball for good measure. George puts the tables through their paces using the custom Fightbox R10 Pro GXG controller, bringing that arcade-style feel to a night of silver-ball action, close calls, and classic GenXGrownUp hangout energy.

Looking Forward

A Wee Ninja Is Sneaking Onto the Lynx

Coming up this week on the GenXGrownUp YouTube channel, we’re taking a look at Wee Ninja from Songbird Productions, a new Atari Lynx release that brings fresh action to Atari’s classic handheld. Lynx fans and retro handheld collectors will definitely want to keep an eye out for this one!

Johnny 5 Is Alive… Again!

Coming May 21, 2026, the next GenXGrownUp Backtrack plugs back into Short Circuit, the 1986 sci-fi comedy that gave us Johnny 5, Cold War weirdness, mall-era tech dreams, and a whole lot of “more input.” We’re revisiting why this lovable lightning-struck robot still has a spark nearly forty years later.

The Inside Track

Galaga’s Famous No-Shoot Bug

One of Galaga’s most famous quirks is the legendary no-shoot bug, a glitch where the enemies eventually stop firing at the player. It became a well-known arcade trick among dedicated players, turning the frantic shooter into something very different once the exploit kicked in.
